Computer Science

Computer engineering students study the design of digital hardware and software systems including communications systems, and devices that contain computers. Computer science is the study, design, development, implementation, support or management of computer-based particularly software applications and computer hardware. An important area within computing engineering is the development of embedded systems. Devices such as cell phones, digital audio players, digital video recorders, alarm systems, x-ray machines, and laser surgical tools all require integration of hardware and embedded software, and are all the result of computer engineering.

DEPARTMENT PROFILE:

The department of computer science at Al-Kabir Polytechnic is renowned for imparting diploma education and preparing its students for real world challenges. Computer department was started in 1998 with an intake capacity of 30 students which later increased to 90 in the year 2002.

The students interact freely with faculty on all matters related to studies and latest development in the field of information technology. Department of Computer Engineering sustains and strengthens its teaching and research program to provide students with inspiration and quality education in the theory and practice of computer engineering. The programs features the theory of computation, analysis of algorithms, computer programming, databases, computer graphics systems analysis, hardware and networking technologies, among others.

Objective:

The department of computer science and engineering prepare students for a professional career in Information technology. Our prime objective is to instill in students the changing technology throughout their career and their realization in current platforms and tools to meet the industry standards. Students should also develop an appreciation of ethical and professional standards and an understanding of the social impact of information technology. To establish and maintain an atmosphere that supports faculty development and growth that encourages faculty to embrace constant changes in technology and curriculum, and to be creative in all aspects of their jobs.

Lab Infrastructure:

The department of Computer Science & Engineering has state-of-the-art lab with over 260 computers installed with latest hardware and software. There are five labs equipped with latest computing hardware and peripherals.
The computer labs are equipped with i5, i3, Core2Duo, Dual Core processors, Scanners, Laser Printers and latest software like Microsoft Office 2007, Oracle with Developer 2000, Visual Studios, and C++ & Java etc. All the computer labs are in network with internet. Information and resources sharing use a dedicated Microsoft Windows Server 2003 & Linux Server. Hardware and networking lab provides maximum hands-on practical training opportunity.
