Civil engineering is a professional engineering discipline that deals with the design, construction and maintenance of the physical and naturally built environment, including works such as bridges, roads, canals, dams and buildings. Civil engineering is the oldest engineering discipline. Civil engineering takes place on all levels in both public as well as private sector.

The Civil Engineering Department in Al-Kabir polytechnic has recently started in the year 2008, with the intake of 60 students. The department has contributed in imparting knowledge based education to the students and strives to train the local youth technically to meet the demands in the field. The course study allows the student to start his own business or get a decent job at a reputed place. The Department with its richly integrated curriculum is committed to impart high quality education and training to the students.

The prime objective of this department is to prepare junior engineers with a solid foundation in analyzing and designing the civil infrastructure systems. To familiarize the students with current and emerging civil engineering and global issues. Engineers will have the necessary qualifications for employment in civil engineering and related professions, for entry into advanced studies, and for assuming eventual leadership roles in their profession.

The department is well equipped with state-of-the-art laboratories and modern infra-structure facilities, to help efficient learning of engineering principles and hand-on practical training. Different laboratories are involved in experiments and projects.  The laboratory staffs are highly skilled and experienced and keep up-to-date with latest technologies and equipments.

Survey, material testing laboratory, hydraulic, and soil testing are some of the practical laboratory facilities provided to students as per their curriculum, so that they can excel in their field to reach new goals in their career.
